S.O. and SPD Team Up in Arrest

A high speed chase ends with a backyard arrest.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski tells KSAL News that early Saturday morning around 1:45am, a deputy saw a driver in a Ford 150 make a wide turn at the corner of Charles and S. 10th without signaling and then sped away when the officer attempted to pull him over.

The truck exceeded speeds of 68 miles per hour through 30-mph zones – driving through a yard in the 500 block of Charles, and Steve Hawley Park. Salina Police took over the chase when the deputy in pursuit hit a curb on Highland, and pulled over with a flat tire.

Salina Police arrested 32-year-old Lonnie Feenstra of Sylvan Grove after he allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Police say Feenstra fought with Sergeant Brent Rupert in a backyard at 1903 Lewis after he was tased.

The driverless truck rolled on and hit a wooden shed in the 1000 block of Shippel Drive causing $5,000 in damages.

Feenstra is facing numerous charges that include fleeing and elude, battery on a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and DUI.
