New Salina Police K-9 On The Streets

KSAL StaffDecember 3, 2014

A new four-legged officer is on the job for the Salina Police Department.

According to the agency, Helio, a German Shepard born in Germany on Oct 2, 2012, is now part of the police force. Helio was trained by David Kiewel at K-9 Working Dogs International in Longford, Kansas.

Helio is replacing Dax, who passed away back in October following a short illness. Dax had an excellent career, excelling at tracking fugitives and locating narcotics. Dax and his handler, Officer Aaron Carswell, worked 3rd shift together for many years.

Helio is partnered with Officer Carlos Londono, who is his handler.
