Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach is urging Wichita Public Schools to tighten its policies that affirm students who identify as transgender.

Kobach’s office sent a letter to the district saying that it has until January 2nd to change its transgender policies under federal law or risk losing federal funding.

Wichita Public Schools officials say their policies follow Kansas and federal law, and district values.
