Howe to Run For Re-Election

A Salina area state representative is seeking re-election. Steven Howe, who has represented Kansas House District 71 since 2021 has completed the necessary paperwork to become a candidate for the Republican nomination for the seat

How says  “it is an honor to serve the people of the 71st District. I am eager to continue my service as a citizen-legislator in the Kansas House of Representatives.”

During Representative Howe’s time in office he was part of a coalition that successfully eliminated the state sales tax on food, eliminated the state income tax on social security benefits, and beginning in tax year 2026, the “State of Kansas” line will be eliminated from Kansans’ property tax bill.

“Kansans deserve tax relief. We can provide even more tax relief if the Legislature can continue to be fiscally responsible and have the political will to reign in state spending. Additionally, a simpler tax code with fewer carve-outs for special interests could mean lower taxes for all.”

In the Legislature, Howe has advocated for limited government and the free enterprise system.

“The government’s primary role is to secure the rights of its citizens. Too often, politicians and public policy get in the way of the free enterprise system, favoring one over the other. We ought to stay in our lane, and let the free enterprise system flourish.”

During the legislative session, Representative Howe is known for his commitment to return back to the 71st District every night. In a typical session, Representative Howe travels nearly 10,000 miles.

“As a husband and father of five children, it is important for me to be home each night. Additionally, by coming back to the district each night, it keeps me grounded and in-tune with the people who entrusted me with representing them in their Kansas House.”

“I look forward to running a positive campaign that listens, encourages civility, and promotes a stronger Salina and Saline County”, Howe said.
