Gypsum Man Hit by Car in Salina

KSAL StaffDecember 5, 2014

A pedestrian is hit by a car and taken to a Wichita hospital.

According to Police Captain Mike Sweeney, 67-year-old James Caldwell of Gypsum was crossing 5th street on Thursday evening at about 7:45pm when he was struck by a 2004 Dodge Neon, driven by 74-year-old Donald Wittman of Salina.

Police say Caldwell suffered broken bones with possible spinal fractures. He was taken to Salina Regional Health Center, then transferred to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita.

Captain Sweeney tells KSAL News that Caldwell was wearing a black jacket and black pants and that visibility may have been a factor in the accident.

The incident occurred just south of the intersection at 5th Street and Center. No citations have been issued.
