A Wichita group is trying to secure historical status for a downtown landmark.

The “Save Century II” group wants to place the 50-year-old performing arts and convention center on the National Register of Historic Places.

The effort to preserve Century II comes as Wichita leaders are considering either renovating it or tearing it down.

The group hopes to have the application to seek a historical designation for the building ready by May of next year.
