A large grass fire is forcing residents in a Kansas county to evacuate.

The fire broke out last night south of Longton in Elk County.

Residents were being evacuated, and the Elk Valley School District says their campus was being used as a shelter for at least 60 people who were forced from their homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
