According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake happened at 10:48 am. It was centered 6.8 miles NNW of Hays. The earthquake measured 2.9 in magnitude.

Earthquakes of this magnitude, ranging between 2.5 and 5.4, are often felt but only cause minor damage.
