Wyandotte County officials say an off-duty deputy was shot and critically wounded when he walked into a convenience store early Wednesday during an armed robbery.
Local media report the deputy underwent surgery and is in critical condition. The deputy was shot at a 7-Eleven in Kansas City, Kansas about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Officials are looking for at least three suspects.
Police say the same three suspects are believed to be involved in earlier robberies at two gas stations in Kansas City, Missouri. In one of those robberies, a store clerk was hit with a pistol and another person was grazed by a bullet.
