Authorities find man’s body in park, arrest another man

KSAL StaffMarch 7, 2015

Authorities have found a man’s body in a western Kansas park and arrested a suspect after he repeatedly shot at officers.

Norton police said in a news release that an officer was investigating a report of a man with a gun Friday night when shots were fired. Officers began searching and found that an unidentified 48-year-old Norton resident had been fatally shot.

Police said officers later confronted the suspect as he walked along U.S. 36 near the west edge of Norton. The man fired more shots before fleeing to a subdivision, getting into a vehicle and speeding off at more than 100 mph.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody around 12:40 a.m. Saturday about 5 miles north of Oberlin. The suspect is jailed in Norton County awaiting charges.
