Antiques Found after Driver Flees Traffic Stop

KSAL StaffJuly 18, 2014

Police arrest the driver of a truck who drove off from a traffic stop.

Thursday evening just before midnight, an officer observed a 1988 Mazda pickup truck with an invalid temporary tag in the 800 block of Hancock and pulled the driver over.

Captain Mike Sweeney says as the officer left his cruiser and approached the pickup on foot – the driver sped away.

A short time later the small truck pulled into a driveway at 904 Sherman and two white males jumped out.

The unattended pickup rolled back and hit the police cruiser causing minor damage.

Police found 34-year-old Christopher Behnke hiding in some bushes and arrested him on multiple charges that include fleeing and eluding, driving on a revoked license and no proof of insurance.

Police are still seeking a white male who was in the passenger seat and ran away.

Officers also found a duffel bag of antiques in the bed of the truck and are looking for the owner of some vintage books and photos.
