Bond is set at $1 million for a woman facing charges which include second degree murder in connection with a fatal crash in rural Saline County.
Via video, 32-year-old Kayla Errebo made her first appearance in Saline County District Court Tuesday morning.
In setting the bond, Judge Amy Norton said she considers Errebo to be “a danger to the community”. The Saline County Attorney’s Office requested the bond be set higher, at $1.5 million or $2 million, but the Judge kept it at $1 million.
Errebo, appearing alone, indicated she has retained attorney Michael Holland to represent her.
The Judge read the six charges Errebo is facing, including two felonies and four misdemeanors. The charges include:
- Second Degree Murder – Felony
- Aggravated Battery – Felony
- Failure to Report an Accident – Misdemeanor
- Reckless Driving – Misdemeanor
- Operating a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device -Misdemeanor
- Improper Driving on a Laned Road – Traffic Violation
If convicted of the second degree murder charge, Errebo faces up 41 years in prison and a fine of up to $300,000.
According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office Errebo, who lives in the Ellsworth County Community of Lorraine, was taken into custody after a head-on collision in Saline County near the intersection of South Reese Road and K-140 Highway at around 5:35am Friday.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a Chevrolet truck was traveling east on K-140 and was struck head on by Errebo’s westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The crash killed 55-year-old Deanna Sommerfeld of Brookville, and 61-year-old Mark Sommerfeld of Brookville suffered serious but non-life -threatening injuries. Errebo suffered minor injuries and left the scene. She was later located at an address in Ellsworth and arrested around 8:26am.
