SUV Rolls In North Salina Crash

A two-vehicle rollover accident in North Salina late Monday afternoon sent two people to the hospital.

The crash happened at around 4:00, at the intersection of Broadway and State Streets. It involved a pickup truck and an SUV.

Officials told KSAL News at the scene that the SUV was headed west on State Street. As it was crossing Broadway, it was hit by the pickup, which was headed north on Broadway. The force of the impact knocked the SUV onto its top.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol,the driver of the truck, 26-year-old Joshua Hiers of Salina,  ran a red light.

The driver of the SUV was trapped. After being freed by firefighters, the driver and a passenger were both was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center. They are identified as 46-year-old Terri Birkholz and 20-year-old Taylor Birkholz  both from Salina. Both were buckled up.

No one in the truck was seriously hurt, including three adults and a baby in a car seat.
