The North Central Kansas community of Beloit is mourning the death of a high school student who was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in rural Mitchell County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 16-year-old Noah Smith was driving a pickup truck, headed north on K 14 Highway. As the highway curved to the west, the truck continued north into the ditch, struck two power poles, rolling multiple times, and came to rest on its wheels facing southwest.
Smith, who troopers say was not buckled up, died at the scene.
The crash happened at 12:10 Saturday morning, on K 14 Highway 5.7 miles north of US 24 Highway.
Smith played football, basketball, and baseball at Beloit Junior-Senior High School.
