VIDEO: Fire Destroys Truck; Spreads to Field

No one was hurt when a semi hauling a load of hay caught fire Wednesday evening along Interstate 70 near Salina.

Firefighters from Rural Fire District 3 and Rural Fire District 7 responded to the fire, which was located in the area of milepost 242 west of Salina.

Officials tell KSAL News that it appeared the fire started in the cab of the truck before spreading to hay bales in the back.  Some of the hay was able to be saved when a neighbor brought a farm implement and unloaded bales that were not yet on fire.

The cab of the truck was totally destroyed.

The fire spread to a nearby field and burned a portion of it.

Both eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed while first responders worked the scene.
