Three Rescued from Arkansas River

Three people are rescued from the Arkansas River at Hutchinson.

According to the Hutchinson Fire Department, they were called for a water rescue at around 2:30 Monday afternoon for thee individuals in the Arkansas River. They were reported to be in the area behind Hobart- Detter field at Carey Park.

The first arriving crews were able to locate the stranded victims holding onto a tree in the middle of the river. The water level has risen significantly and the current is very swift.

The agency’s water rescue team launched their boat and a 3 man team up river from the victims and were able to gain access to them quickly without incident.

The victims were then brought back upstream to an access point where they were transferred and treated by Reno County EMS. 

Crews accomplished the rescue in about 30 min from the time of call. No injuries to report from all first responder agencies.

The agency would like to remind everyone to be extra safe. We are currently in a flood warning. Never drive through water covered roads, river currents are swifter than usual, and the river edges are soft.
