A Salina man stops a sale from going forward to avoid being scammed.

The Saline County Sheriff’s reports that the 55-year old man was trying to sell a garden tub online at LetGo.com and found a buyer who agreed to pay $440 for the item.

He became suspicious of the deal when the buyer sent him a check written for over the amount of purchase from a cancer center in New York City.

The buyer wanted him to deposit the check for $1,810.35, keep the $440 and send the rest to a so called ‘shipping agent.’

Instead of depositing the money – he called the cancer center in NYC and learned that the check was fraudulent and reported the case to the sheriffs office.
