Review of Force Underway

KSAL StaffJune 24, 2014

Salina Police are reviewing an arrest made last Friday, after an officer used a taser on a man who would not exit his vehicle.

The incident was captured on video by a cell phone that was inside the vehicle.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that the department is looking into an arrest that was made during a seat belt check lane Friday night at the corner of 9th and Kirwin just before 11pm.

Sweeney says they are looking to see if there was any policy or procedure violations during the arrest, and the department will move forward with correction and or discipline if any wrong doing is found.

Sweeney added it’s department policy to review all cases when an officer uses force.

After the initial stop – the officer learned that the driver, 30-year-old Zachary Noel of Wichita was driving on a suspended licence. Police say he was tased after he would not follow commands to turn off his vehicle and exit from behind the wheel.

Noel is now facing charges that include driving while suspended and interference with law enforcement.
