Residents Escape From Fire; Dog Does Not

Two people escaped a fire that badly damaged a north Salina mobile home late Thursday morning, but a pet dog did not.

Salina Fire Marshal Roger Williams told KSAL News at the scene that first responders were called at 11:10 in the morning to the report of a mobile home on fire in the 700 block of North 2nd Street. He says that they found a home at 708 North Second Street on fire.

It was initially indicated that there might still be two people inside the burning home. Williams says that was not the case. The residents were outside when crews arrived.

Williams says that though the residents escaped, a pet dog did not. Firefighters found the dog inside, deceased in a hallway.

The residents refused medical treatment from EMS at the scene.

Williams says that early indications are that a burner on a stove may have been the cause of the fire.
