Chris A. Zech

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Chris A. Zech, age 62, on May 17, 2025, in Salina, Kansas. Chris was a cherished son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend, whose presence was a gift to all who knew him. Born on November 16, 1962, at Marysville, KS, Chris lived a life full of quiet strength gentle spirit defined by love. Though nonverbal, Chris had a language all of his own,  expressing joy with a smile and a chuckle, warmth through his eyes, and humor with his glance. He loved the Smoky Hill River Festival, all-star wrestling, Monster Trucks, and proudly participated in the Special Olympics – swimming, basketball, and bowling with pride, winning several medals. He bowled in a league at the All-Star Bowling Alley in Salina.

Chris was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Kenneth and Beverly Zech.
He is survived by his brother, Ken (Janet) Zech; sisters, Lisa (Bill) Zech-Mencanin and Shari (Mike) Zech-Shields; and was a devoted uncle and great-uncle to his nieces and nephews.

His life was lovingly supported by his longtime caregiver and dear friend, whom he called family, Carolyn Augustine, whose dedication over more than 25 years was a true blessing.

Chris was part of the OCCK family for 50 years, where he found connection and community. The family would like to thank OCCK and Gentiva Hospice for their care and dedication.

A graveside memorial service will be held on May 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Salina. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Chris’s memory to Roselawn Cemetery.

Chris may not have spoken with words, but his life was a beautiful expression of love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
