Man Tased after Fight with Cops to Free Son

Police are looking for a 17-year-old male – after his father allegedly assaulted a police officer to free him.

Captain Paul Forrester tells KSAL News that two officers were serving a warrant for the teen at a trailer park in the 900 block of N. 13th around 8:45pm Saturday night.

Forrester says officers knocked on the front door which was opened and immediately slammed shut.

Seconds later two males ran out the backdoor.

Officers caught the teen and were attempting to take him into custody when 41-year-old John W. Nelson returned and punched the female officer in the head twice, breaking her sunglasses.

Police say he threatened her again and told her if he had a baseball bat he would have killed her.

Nelson was tased and taken into custody.

He is now facing numerous charges that include battery of a police officer, criminal threat and aiding escape.
