Man Found On Ice Died From Cold

A man whose body was found late last week on a frozen creek just outside of Salina died of natural causes.

The body of 65-year-old Robert Lloyd Basye was found Thursday evening on the ice on Mulberry Creek near the Bosselman Pilot Truck Stop by a father and daughter on a late afternoon walk.

According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary autopsy conducted Monday indicates that Basye died from exposure to the cold. Basye, who resided at 2140 E. Crawford in Salina, frequented the truck stops in the area where he was found.

Basye was identified by a driver’s license. Family members have been notified of his death.

The death is being investigated as an accidental death.
