Lecompton to host ‘Bleeding Kansas’ play

A critical point in the early history of Kansas will come to life on stage at Lecompton’s Constitution Hall.

The Lecompton Re-enactors will perform J. Howard Duncan’s play “Bleeding Kansas Characters” on Nov. 3.

Actors will portray significant figures from Kansas’ territorial days in the 1850s engaging in discussions about slavery. The setting is a town hall political meeting in the period leading up to statehood and the Civil War.

November’s performance is the first of five stagings of the play planned through May 2014 at Constitution Hall, which is operated by the Kansas Historical Society.
