Kansas man seeks venue change in escape charge

A 29-year-old man convicted of murdering a 14-month-old boy is seeking a change of venue for his trial on a charge of aggravated escape.

The Salina Journal reports Antonio Brown, who was convicted earlier this month in Manhattan in the death of his former girlfriend’s son, wants a new venue for his trial on escape charges.

Salina County Judge Rene Young has scheduled a hearing on the motion for Nov. 14.

Brown is accused of walking out of a Saline County Jail holding cell after a door was inadvertently opened. Officers say he remained at large for two days before surrendering in Wichita to U.S. marshals.

Brown’s lawyer says extensive publicity warrants the venue change. But prosecutors say publicity by itself is not sufficient cause to move a trial.
