Inmate Found Guilty Of Escape

A Kansas Department of Corrections inmate was found guilty Thursday of aggravated escape from custody while being housed in the Ottawa County Jail in 2012.

According to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, 24-year-old Santos M. Carrera-Morales was found guilty by an Ottawa County jury of aggravated escape from custody and battery on a corrections officer. Chief Judge Jerome P. Hellmer presided over the trial. Sentencing is scheduled for February 11.

Three other inmates have previously been sentenced for the escape. Alberto Barraza-Lujan and Drew Wade were each sentenced in March 2013 to an additional 136 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections. Eric James was sentenced in July 2012 to 18 years in federal prison for carjacking charges related to the escape.
