Former Kansas police officer dies at Missouri lake

KSAL StaffMay 25, 2014

A former Wichita police officer died after an accident at Table Rock Lake in southwest Missouri.

Southern Stone County fire officials say 36-year-old Shane Little died Friday afternoon after a fall near the Aunts Creek campground on the lake.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Little and another man were walking on a trail near Oswalt Bluff when Little lost his footing and fell 30 to 40 feet to the base of the cliff.

Emergency personnel used a fisherman’s boat to take Little across the lake. He was transported to an area hospital but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Little worked in Wichita’s north patrol. He was a member of the SWAT team until he contracted bacterial meningitis in 2011 and lost most of his vision.
