Former bandmate enters plea in death of rap artist

A Kansas City, Kan., man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a rap artist known as Creepyface.

Wyandotte County prosecutors say 30 year-old Daniel Barlett is the brother-in-law of the victim, 37-year-old Chad Ford, who was shot in a gunbattle between vehicles in September 2012.

The Kansas City Star reports a jury convicted Barlett in March of criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle but deadlocked on a first-degree murder charge.

Barlett’s cousin, Michael A. McKeehan, pleaded guilty in January to second-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle and two counts of aggravated assault.

Ford and Barlett, who rapped under the name Devil Boy, were former bandmates. The two began feuding after Ford left that band.
