The cause of an overnight fire that engulfed three oil tanks is being investigated.

According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, a Salina police officer on patrol spotted a fire burning on the property owned by Johnson Sand Company, 2100 E. Schilling Road.

Rural Fire District 5 arrived on the scene around 1:10am and battled the blaze that destroyed 3 oil tanks owned by Scott’s Well Service of Roxbury.

Lightning from a quick moving thunderstorm has not been ruled out as a possible cause of the fire.

Damage and loss is estimated at $20,000.
