Falling Ice Causes Damage

KSAL StaffFebruary 10, 2014

Falling ice causes damage in downtown Salina.

Sometime late Sunday or early Monday, a large chunk of ice fell from the roof of a building in the 100 Block of North Santa Fe and crashed down. The ice first landed on an awning, tearing it from a wall.

The building at 125 North Santa Fe houses Howard’s Atlas Optical on the first floor. The business had been aware of the large ice formation on the outside of the building, and had previously closed off the area as a safety precaution.

An awning and frame tore off the wall. There was no structure damage to the building, outside or inside.

No one was injured when the ice fell. A damage estimate was not yet available Monday afternoon.
