A welfare check by police leads to a high speed pursuit and the arrest of a Salina man.
According to Captain Kyle Tonniges, 36-year-old Christopher Ebinger was taken into custody after a series of events that began Monday morning around 5:30am.
Police say a concerned motorist called 911 after noticing a man sitting in a pickup at 9th and Pleasant Hill Road. Officers contacted Ebinger while he sat in a 2001 Ram 1500 and he told them he had been in a fight and was injured. Medics were called and after a short conversation – Ebinger abruptly drove off, hit an Evergy Power pole and then sped away.
During the chase, speeds reached 55mph before he drove into a ditch and got the truck stuck in the 2400 block of North 9th Street.
Ebinger is now facing charges that could include flee and elude, speeding and reckless driving.
