Brief Tornado Reported In Ottawa County

KSAL StaffJune 1, 2014

Severe thunderstorms that rolled through central Kansas Sunday evening brought with them damaging wind, heavy rain, hail, and a brief tornado in Ottawa County.

Storms fired up in the Russell County area. Wind in excess of 60 miles per hour downed 25 to 30 power poles along highway 281.

In Ottawa County, law enforcement reported two very brief tornado touchdowns at 07:38 pm. One was 1 mile north at 180th and Frontier Road. The other was 4 miles southwest of that area. A couple entire cottonwood trees were down across 170th Street and K 18 Highway. There were reports of some damage to roofs in portions of Ottawa County.

A little further to the east, damaging wind of 78 miles per hour was reported in Abilene.
