ATV, Trailer Thefts On The Rise

Salina Police are warning trailer, ATV and motorcycle owners to be aware of an uptick in sports vehicle thefts around the area.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that thefts in Salina and surrounding counties has increased.

“During the last six months we have noticed an increased amount of vehicles – particularly trucks, motorcycles, ATV and trailers that are being stolen,” he said.

Police say thieves are looking for items that are easy to take and authorities are urging owners to park those vehicles in buildings when possible.

Sweeney added, “A lot of people have made a sound investment in these items but then will buy a lower end lock that can be easily cut off.”

Captain Sweeney says no real pattern has been established over the past six months, except these vehicles and trailers were all left where thieves had easy access to steal them.
