Arrest Made in Connection to Numerous Cases

KSAL StaffMay 5, 2014

A local man is arrested in connection to robbery, sexual assault and criminal threat cases.

Shaundrick Staten, 25, of Salina has been charged on counts of misdemeanor theft, criminal threat, robbery, rape and possession of a firearm.

According to Capt. Mike Sweeney, Staten was recognized from a store video at Casey’s General Store at 215 West Crawford where he allegedly stole money from a store clerk.

Upon checking his residence, officers found prescription medication which was related to a sexual abuse case.

On May 2nd between 130am and 230am a 38 year old female acquaintance of Staten’s was allegedly robbed and raped by the suspect.

The female met Staten at Food Mart (220 W. Crawford) and he offered her a ride to her residence. After dropping her off, Staten allegedly entered into her home before she was able to shut the door asking to use the restroom. Once in the home, Staten threatened her with a sawed off shotgun. He then allegedly went on to sexually assault her and steal her wallet, cell phone and the prescription medication that officers located inside Staten’s residence. The shotgun he threatened her with was also found.

Staten has also been connected to another criminal threat case from February and April.

On February 18th it was reported to Salina Police that a 52 year old man in the 800 block of Sheridan had various items stolen from the suspect and was also threatened by him. Months later the victim alleges that Staten pulled out a .38 revolver on him and threatened to beat him if not given money.

Ammunition for the revolver was also located upon searching Staten’s residence.
