Thomas “Tom” John Istas, 69 years of age, of Concordia passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Sunset Nursing Center in Concordia. He was born in Concordia, Kansas on July 5, 1956, to Francis and Norma (Lewis) Istas.

He graduated from Concordia High School 1974 and later from Kansas State University with a degree in Milling Science.

He worked at a milling company in Nebraska and later for Aurora Grain at the elevator and his dad’s farm.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Aurora, Kansas.

Thomas enjoyed playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, and always loved a good meal.

He is survived by his siblings, Michael Istas (Connie), Jerry Istas (Pat), Bill (Debbie) Istas, Kenny Istas (Cala), Jean Istas & Roger Istas (Allison); brother-in-law, Ken Taylor and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Norma Lee Istas, his two sisters, Joan Istas & Diane Taylor.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 1-4 p.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas. Then moving the body to the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Aurora at 4 p.m. where the visitation will resume and a Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m., with the family greeting friends after the rosary service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Aurora, Kansas with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating.  The burial will follow in the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Aurora, Kansas.
