50 Year Water Plan To Be Discussed

KSAL StaffApril 11, 2014

State and local officials are gathering in Manhattan to discuss water needs in Kansas and begin developing a 50-year plan for managing water resources.

The daylong meeting Friday includes members of the State Board of Agriculture, the Kansas Water Authority and a council advising Gov. Sam Brownback on the economy.

Brownback called in October for a 50-year plan to meet the water needs of Kansas residents and extend the life of the Ogallala High Plains Aquifer in western Kansas.

Since then, a team working on the plan has met with more than 7,000 people across the state.

Members of the team will share information they’ve gathered at Friday’s meeting. Their goal is to complete the first draft of the 50-year plan in May.
