Nine Life Sentences For Salina Man

A Salina man received nine consecutive life sentences under “Jessica’s Law” sentencing guidelines Wednesday morning. Each life sentence includes with it no possibility of parole for a minimum of 25 years.

Judge Jared Johnson imposed the sentence on 41-year-old Glenn Lippard, who back in March was convicted of of eight counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, five counts of rape, and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Lippard was arrested back in Decemebr of 2013.  The crimes happened in south Salina between December, 25 2012 and November 29th of 2013. The victim  was an acquaintance of Lippard’s

Lippard spoke at the sentencing. He spoke directly to the victim, before speaking to the judge. Lippard has maintained his innocence throughout the entire case, and did so again Wednesday.  He told the judge “I stand before you here today a completely innocent man,” he said. He asked for the judge’s “understanding and compassion.”

The victim also spoke. She said that she can never regain what has been taken from her. She said that she struggles everyday with what happened.

Judge Johnson was was unswayed by Lippard. The judge said that Lippard was “shifting the responsibility to the victim.” “I view it as manipulation,” Johnson said, “almost as if you are re-victimizing her.”

In urging the maximum sentence, the Saline County Attorney’s Office noted that Lippard had several other sex related arrests prior to this case.

Defense attorney Julie McKenna immediately filed an appeal, and Judge Johnson set a new bond of $5 million.
