Local service members and veterans will benefit from a unique event this weekend in Salina.

A first of its kind cook-off for a cause and decorated tree event is planned for Saturday. It features a chili cook-off and decorated Christmas tree auction.

Decorated trees up for auction include Kansas City Royals, Kansas State University Wildcats, University of Kansas Jayhawks, Dallas Cowboys, and military themed. There will also be a silent auction of various items as well.

The chili-cookoff will feature teams from local fire, EMS, and law enforcement as well as the general public.

Santa will be visiting with the children at the event.

The cook-off for a cause and Christmas tree auction is this Saturday from noon till 4 at Eckert Hall, 2850 Scanlan Avenue. All proceeds go to Warrior Joe’s Social Club to support local service members and veterans.
