Turkey Trot is Family Time

The 28th Annual Turkey Trot is coming up Thanksgiving morning at Bill Burke Park.

“We have people coming out just to hang out with their families,” said Hope Varela – Health and Wellness Director at Salina’s YMCA.

“Last year we had a family of probably twenty or thirty, and it was their family reunion and they brought everybody out and they had matching shirts. It was really cool to see that.”

Varela tells KSAL News that the Run/Walk event begins at 8:30am and participants can register the day of race.

“It’s a free run, just bring four canned goods and you can run,” she said.

Food collected will benefit the Salina Food Bank.

Varela added that racers should check the Y’s Facebook page on Thursday and look for any weather updates that may be a factor tomorrow.

“If we have sleeting or blizzard like possibilities of weather we’re going to cancel that,” she said. “If it’s just light mist or snowing we’ll definitely go ahead and give it a green light!”

The 2-mile walk or 3-mile run starts at 8:30am Thursday, November 26th at Bill Burke Park in Salina.
