Sheriff’s Office Warns of Latest Scam

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a potential scam.

Saline County Undersheriff Brent Melander tells KSAL News that several people from around the county have received calls from a phone number with the area code of 785. The caller would pose as a Saline County Sheriff’s deputy trying to fool the victim that they had missed jury duty.

The caller would then tell the victim to go buy some prepaid cards to pay a fine or risk being arrested.

Melander says that sheriff’s deputies will never call anyone for missing jury duty. If the courts call about a person missing jury duty, deputies will visit the address given and knock on the door to remind the individual of their obligation.
