Rivalry Week In Salina Area

It’s rivalry week in the Salina area. Nearly a half-dozen football games feature a matchup of teams that are rivals.

It started on Sunday, with the benefit Guns N Hoses football games at Salina Stadium. In a matchup between Salina Police Officers and Salina Firefighters, the Hoses of the Salina Fire Department came out on top over the Guns of the Salina Police Department 8 – 6. Proceeds from the game go to a couple of local families in need.

Friday night three area communities host big games.

In Salina, it’s the showdown of cross-town rivals at Salina Stadium. The Salina Central Mustangs host the Salina South Cougars. This game will be heard on the radio on Saline Media Group radio stations Newsradio 1150 KSAL AM and on Y 93.7, 93.7 FM

In Gypsum, it’s a matchup of Saline County rivals. Salina Sacred Heart is on the road to play Southeast of Saline. This game will be heard on Salina Media Group radio station Classic Hits 104.9, 104.9 FM.

In Chapman on Friday night it’s one of the oldest rivalries west of the Mississippi, and in the country. The Chapman Fighting Irish host the Abilene Cowboys. These neighboring schools have been playing each other since 1892. This game will be heard on Salina Media Group radio stations True Oldies 98.5, 98.5 FM and also on AM 1560 KABI.

Saturday night two rival college football teams square off. The Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes are on the road, taking on the Bethany Swedes in Lindsborg. This game will be heard on Salina Media Group radio station Classic Hits 104.9, 104.9 FM.
