Maria de la Luz Bonilla of Salina, KS, was called back to heaven Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the age of 78. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in the comfort of her own home. Maria (Luz) is survived by; her children, Dominic Bonilla, John Bonilla Jr. (Priscilla Liserio-Bonilla), Angelica Nunemaker (Paul Nunemaker), and Mario Bonilla (Karli Schrag-Bonilla), all of Salina; grandchildren: Payton (Evan), Denise, Sydney, Cierah (Rodolfo), Savannah, Alexxa, Declan, Quinton, Ruby, Kamryn, Sinjin, Erica, and Ian; great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Roen, Kloe, Delilah, Julien, and Lorenzo; sisters: Manuela Garcia (Alfonso Garcia), Maria C. Reveles (Raul Reveles); and brothers, Saul Delgado (Irma Delgado), Noel Delgado (Maria L. Delgado), and Santos Delgado Jr., and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Luz was preceded in death by her parents, Elisa and Santos Delgado, her husband, John Bonilla Sr. and her brother, Emiliano Delgado.
Luz was born in Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico, on March 16, 1947. She spent her early years on the ranch (El Ranchito), making many wonderful memories with her family. At the young age of twenty-two, Luz married the love of her life, John Bonilla Sr. , and started their life together. She dedicated much of her time and energy raising her four children and caring for her grandchildren. Luz worked at Tony’s Pizza Service for more than twenty-five years before retiring and focusing solely on her family. Luz lived a life led by faith and love. She is remembered for her strength, family values, and witty personality by all of those who knew and adored her.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina, KS, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 20, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, with Father Simon Peter as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Salina. A luncheon will be held at the Bishops Hall at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
