H. Neal Gish

H. Neal Gish, 83, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 10th, 2020. He was born on March 28, 1937, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Hallie Homer and Irene Marie (Owen) Gish.

He delivered papers and was a golf caddie in Colorado Springs when he was young and eventually moved to Brookville, Kansas where he met his wife Lois Marie Brozek while attending Brookville High School. While attending school, he worked at the CK Ranch, The Brookville Hotel and for area farmers. Neal didn’t mind hard work, he loved playing baseball (catcher) for many years and had the crooked fingers (from being broken) to show for it, years later. Neal loved bicycle riding and rode Across Kansas and many miles on bike trails near Lawrence, Kansas while living there.

Neal worked for Wilson & Co. Eng. And retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Federal Office Building in Kansas City, Missouri. Lois and Neal retired in 2002 and they moved back to Salina to be closer to family. Neal was a member of the Masonic Lodge #60 of Salina, Kansas for over 40 years.

Neal lost the love of his life Lois on February 7th of this year and never recovered from that loss.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fred Toler and sister-in-law, Sui Gish.

Survivors include his daughters, Julie Bailey (Pete) of Salina, Lori Lebel (Joe) of Pennsylvania, and Sheri King (Kevin) of Salina; grandchildren, Chad Bailey (Francheska), David Bailey (Linnea) all of Salina, Jeremy Lebel, Kema Schultz (Derek) all of Pennsylvania, Carly Minnis (Jeff) of Maine, Jesse King (Mattie) of Manhattan; and Shane King of Plains, Montana; great grandchildren, Clayton and Micah Bailey, Keiradyn and Nash Bailey, all of Salina, Adalee Grason, Ashland Schultz, and Austin Lebel of Pennsylvania, Benji Minnis of Maine, Rylan and Roxanne King of Salina; beloved pet, Kipper; brothers, Elwood Gish, of Washington, Gary Gish of Connecticut, Karen Koelling (Art) and Gene Toler, all of Salina; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen, there will be no visitation.

Graveside services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, May 14th at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, Kansas with Pastor Matt Parnell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, sent in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio Street, Salina.
