Barbara Lintecum

Barbara Lintecum, age 80, passed away peacefully on January 13th in Salina, Kansas, with her family by her side. Barbara was born in Toronto, Kansas, on March 4, 1945 to Marvin and Mae Gibson.  After graduating from high school in Neal, Kansas, Barbara relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, and began her career at Hallmark Cards where she continued to work for more than 40 years.  During that time, Barbara married Robert Lintecum, and gave birth to a son, Christopher Lintecum, while living in Raytown, Missouri.

Barbara was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed any opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, which included moving cross-country to care for the little ones. Barbara continued to live in Raytown until 2006 when she retired to care for her grandchildren.  Barbara relocated to Marion Iowa in 2007 and lived there with her children and grandchildren until 2017 when they returned to Missouri as a family.   Barbara moved to Salina Kansas in 2024 to live in the house where her Mom had spent her later years and to be near family.

Barbara enjoyed watching sports, particularly soccer.  When she was not watching her kids and grandkids play soccer, she was working at All American Indoor Sports helping organize leagues and support the teams as they played the sport they loved.  Barbara worked at All American from 1995 until 2006.  Over those years, she made great friends with players and coaches alike.

Barbara also enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and crafts.  She often used those skills to serve others.  Barbara quilted for Project Linus and various quilt guilds over the years that help deliver quilts to organizations, hospitals and families/children in need. She enjoyed showing quilts at quilt shows and making a “second” quilt for a family member because they fell in love with the blanket made for one of the organizations she served.  Numerous family and friends have received t-shirt quilts or quilts made out of clothing to preserve memories and memorialize loved ones. Barbara also enjoyed working with the wonderful group at the Salina Community Theatre to create and make alterations to costumes.  She proudly displayed every Playbill and articles referencing awards the theatre received over the years.

Barbara traveled the region to play dominos and other games with friends and family.  She cherished that time. The fellowship, laughter and food that were shared within the group were something she looked forward to every month.

Barbara is survived by her son Christopher Lintecum, her daughter-in-law Johnna Lintecum.  Her granddaughter Emma Lintecum, her grandson Kendrick Lintecum, his wife Bethany Lintecum and her great granddaughters Georgiana and Evangeline (expected in summer).  Barbara is also survived by her brother Robert Gibson, her brother Glen Gibson and sister-in-law Carolyn Gibson, brother James Gibson and sister-in-law Marilyn Gibson, and brother Jackie Gibson.  Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mae Gibson, her sister-in-law Mary L. Gibson and sister-in-law Mary E. Gibson.

Services to celebrate Barbara’s full life will be held at the Cornerstone Community Church 1045 E Ash Street, Salina KS 67401 on Monday January 19th at 11:00 AM.  Refreshments and food will be served after the service.  Please plan to stay and share your memories of Barbara with the family.
