Concern Over Rise In Statewide Traffic Deaths

Traffic deaths are headed for as much as a five-percent increase this year on state highways.

According to Kansas Highway Patrol officials, the rise comes as state residents cut cumulative highway miles by more than 10-percent since the beginning of the year. The number of traffic fatalities reportedly is also among the highest yearly totals on record.

Troopers stress the number-one cause of fatal vehicle accidents comes down to two things: speed and/or alcohol.
