AUDIO: Kansas Wesleyan Coaches Show 12-11

The winter season is heating up for the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes.

And so does the Kansas Wesleyan Coaches Show, which takes place every Monday from 6 to 7 pm, live at Burger Theory inside the Holiday Inn just past Lowe’s. Come in for the $6.99 Build-Your-Own-Burger Special that includes a side. Various members of the Wesleyan athletic department will be there.

What a week for the Kansas Wesleyan men’s basketball team. The Coyotes shocked the No. 8 Southwestern Moundbuilders with a 76-74 overtime victory. Sophomore Jordan McNelly rebounded an air ball and banked in the game-winner right before the horn. It was the first loss for Southwestern. KWU avoided a set back with an 87-73 victory at Sterling. The Coyotes were led by senior Terell Gandy with 15 points. He was one of eight Coyotes with seven points or more. KWU has its first three-game winning streak since 2009-10. Coach Anthony Monson recapped last week and previewed Tuesday’s game against Friends.

The women’s basketball squad started last week with a victory over Southwestern 64-60. Wesleyan improved to 5-0 at Mabee Arena after the victory. In the following game, Wesleyan was up by nine in the fourth at Sterling. But, the Warriors outscored the Coyotes 15-1 to end the game with a 71-66 win. Coach Ryan Showman chatted about last week’s action and talked about his junior varsity program.

To wrap up the show, head indoor track & field coach Luke Samford previewed the upcoming season for the teams. One meet is under their belt and coach Samford is excited for the season.
