Geraldine “Jerry” Rosaline Dyson

Geraldine “Jerry” Rosaline Dyson (who abhorred that her first and middle name together sounded like a song), age 90, left this earthly life on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Marquis Place, Concordia. She was born on May 19, 1928 in Aurora, KS to Edward and Ruby (Dandurand) Cote.

She was married on July 14, 1947 to Lyle I. Dyson in Aurora, Kansas. She attended the Enterprise School in Rural Cloud County. She was a homemaker and had worked as a food server at USD 333 and a clerk at F & A Sales. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was also a member of VFW Post #588 Women’s Auxiliary, American Legion Post #76 Women’s Auxiliary, Women of the Moose and the Fat A** Ladies Club, all of Concordia, Kansas. She is honored with a brick in Wichita State University’s Plaza of Heroines, where there is a tribute at www.plazaofheroines.com.

Geraldine is survived by 2 sons, Gregory Dyson (Leslie) Sterling, CO.; Bruce Dyson (Pam), Plano, TX.; 2 daughters, Kendra Albin (Steve), Salina, KS.; Lynette Murphy (Dan), Wichita, KS.; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. As the youngest of the family, she was preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings.

When she was just a little girl, her mother began preparing her for life as a married woman, especially emphasizing the importance of sewing. Having been born in the Depression, where every last penny mattered, you made clothes by hand because you had to. She loved BINGO, jigsaw puzzles and garage sales and could beat anyone in a game of cards or Rummikub. Even though she was limited by a stroke later in life, she was still resourceful, always having candy and snacks available for visitors and using her ornery sense of humor to play loving tricks.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Wed., June 20, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Fr. David Metz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 1-9 pm with a Vigil service at 6 pm, with the family greeting friends after the Vigil, all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 307 E. Fifth St., Concordia, KS 66901, or Meadowlark Hospice, 709 Liberty Street, Clay Center, KS 67432, or in care of the funeral home. For online condolences, please visit www.chaputbuoy.com.
