Jerry J. Cooper, 89, of Lindsborg, KS, met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 29, 2026. He was born March 17, 1937, in Caney, Kansas to Marcena and Sarah “Esther” Caroline (Mays) Cooper.
He grew up in southern Kansas with his parents and older brother. In his early teens his family moved to Wichita. After high school he earned multiple bachelor’s and master’s degrees in math, science, education, and computer science. He taught math and science at the secondary level in Belle Plaine and Buhler, KS, and Peru, South America. He also taught computer science at the college level in Tarkio, MO and Lindsborg, KS. He was known inside and outside the classroom for his love of numbers and he applied that love to preparing income taxes for people and local businesses.
Outside of work, Jerry found joy in playing piano and organ, participating in organizations such as Rotary and Gideons, doing jigsaw puzzles, teaching Sunday School, and traveling the continental U.S. with tent or camper.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Cooper.
Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Kathy; children, Stephen Cooper and his wife, Sandie, Phillip McMillen and his wife, Rhonda, Mario Cooper, Darrell Cooper and his wife, Kate; and Andrea Laper and her husband, Collin; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2:30 P.M., Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the Bethany Home Chapel, 321 N. Chestnut, Lindsborg, KS. Family graveside services will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons International and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
