Arnold Orval Grant, age 99, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026 in Salina. He was born on September 8, 1926 in Penokee, Kansas to the late Orval and Nannie Grant. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Ila Fay Gillberg Grant and his sister Katherine Ellen Grant. He is survived by his children Kevin (Frances), Kim (Mira Zevin), and Jane Kaufman (Jason), grandchildren Jessica, Lindsey, Christian, Carolyn, David, Daniel, Peter, Ari, and Evan, and six great-grandchildren.

Arnold moved to Salina in 1939 with his parents and sister and spent the rest of life in the community. He graduated from Salina High School in 1944 and immediately went into the Army, serving his country in Europe before returning to work for the Salina Planing Mill, where he was a skilled cabinet maker and millwork specialist, rising to become manager. He went to college with the help of the G.I. Bill, and graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1950. In 1983, he started his own company, Grant Woodcraft, aided by his son Kevin. Together they furnished dozens of schools, churches, libraries, colleges, banks, law firms, and other professional and commercial businesses throughout Kansas with high quality cabinets and millwork. He was a true self-made man and a hardworking, successful businessman and genuine master craftsman. At the age of 89, Arnold retired to care for his wife Ila Fay, who passed away in 2020.

Arnold designed and built his own house in 1956 and lived there until the last week of his life. He was a loving father and devoted family man who was kind, modest, and beloved by many for his politeness and warm smile. At his wishes, he was cremated and his ashes will be interred next to his wife and sister at Bridgeport Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
