A rural Saline County Community has a special event planned this Friday and Saturday, with a goal of putting the finishing touches on a community park.

Volunteers will gather for a “community build” in Assaria to help construct playground equipment at the Assaria Community Park.

Volunteers have been steadily renovating the park. When the project began the park consisted of hand-me-down equipment including two slides, a jungle gym, swings, public restrooms, a shelter house, a concrete basketball court, and a softball field.

The dream is to completely renovate the city park by removing a few pieces of old equipment, as well as refurbish existing pieces. A new farm-themed structure with barnyard scenes, slides, climbers, and spinners will be added. There will also be infant / toddler swings, a toddler playset, and a set of musical outdoor instruments.

There are also plans for a half-mile long paved walking trail around the park.

The community build in Assaria will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, and again on Saturday. Volunteers will likely build until dark both days. With many people in the field harvesting, more volunteers are needed. Anyone who can help, whether it be for an hour or for a whole day, would be appreciated.
