VIDEO: Budweiser Clydesdales Make Home Delivery

It was no ordinary home delivery in Salina Wednesday afternoon. The “clip clop” of hooves was in the air as surprised people watched the world famous Budweiser hitch, a team of eight Clydesdale horses pulling a turn of the century beer wagon, deliver a couple of cases of “The King of Beers” to Jon Gonzales at his home in Central Salina.

Three large tractor trailer trucks pulling specially designed trailers arrived at the Salina Bicentennial Center parking lot and began to unload. Eight beautiful Clydesdale horses emerged from the trailers, along with a Dalmatian named Chip. After the horses were hitched to a wagon, they slowly made their way to the Gonzales home at 312 Center Street.

Dan “Boone” Vidricksen from Vidricksen Distributing in Salina tells KSAL News that Gonzales was the winner of a contest. In celebration of its 50th year in Salina, the Budweiser distributor gave customers a chance to win a home delivery from the World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales. He says that Gonzales was “so surprised when I knocked on his door to tell him he won”.

Gonzales tells KSAL News that he never expected to win when he entered. He says “does anyone really have a clue they are going to win when they enter something like this? I had no idea!”

Gonzales submitted his winning entry at Jensen Liquor on South Ohio Street. Owner Harlin Jensen tells KSAL News that Gonzales is the perfect winner. He says “they drive clear across town to our store, and they are good people.”

About 30 people were gathered with Gonzales, and cheered as the team of Clydesdales arrived. He received a couple of cases of Budweiser, and some Clydesdale merchandise.

Vidricksen says that he brought the World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales to town for everyone to enjoy. Weather permitting, they will be at Rolling Hills Zoo from 11:30 till 1:30 on Thursday for a photo opportunity. The Clydesdale team will also be in the Parade of Lights through Downtown Salina this Saturday night.
